Was at a local book store looking through various 4x4 mags and saw these in one.

Seems like a decent idea, only thing I would wonder about is how durable they are, would they hold up over many years and miles of use? They dont say weather they are ment for offroad only or if they would be ok for street use too.

Opinions?

If they were bronze or were from some company I recognized, maybe, but the replacement bearings aren't all that expensive, and if they're packed when reassembled, shouldn't give you too many issues. I'd rather let somebody else experiment before I buy in on that one.

Longfield is top-notch stuff. I don't know anything about these bushings, but I do know about Longfield. They've been making hard-core parts for the TLC crowd for many years.

That's good to know, but you can probably pick up a pair of bronze oillite bushings for less than what those cost.

Yeah, no reason to trust a name like longfield. They just make the arguably strongest shafts on the market, and have been making hard core off road parts as long as anyone has.

Bottom line, tho, the bushings may well be a solution to a a problem that the typical DD doesn't encounter. If you do a lot of driving in harsh environments(water/mud), then the bearings don't last long. In typical DD use, the bearings are fine, and I have never had to replace one.

That's a great idea. I guess if you drove in 4 HI all day on the highway, they might not be for you. But, for someone like me, whose front end only spins when I'm rock crawlin, they sound good.

I have pulled my front end apart in the dirt more than a few times now and I'm sure there is crap in those little needle bearings. Those teflon ones look easy to service.

I know what I'm making in my machining lab after hours now

Interesting. I think I'll try some of those myself...

I am building D60 for my cherokee (as money permits) and was wondering if there would be worth putting in. Like mentioned above, they would only be used when in 4x4. I dont think they would be a good idea for a Q-trac rig. But offroad only would probably be ok.
