Weird bolts

On my exhaust manifolds, i have four large
fine thread bolds poking out the sides.
They don't seem do do anything?..Did 78' 401's have air injected into the exhaust?..jeesh i hope not there is absolutely no emmissions equip on my jeep at all..no cat either..thanx l8tr

That's exactly what they are/were for. Even back in 78 emissions was rearing its ugly head. If I remember right you should have 4 on one side and 3 on the other, but I honestly can't be sure.

Thanx ..so with that said, i probably have a
jeep that originaly came with emissions equip that was removed. hmmm Does anybody know when emissions were started on jeep?

The AIR pump/injector tubes go back to the Buick 350's in the late 60's, if not all the way back to the Rambler 327. I think the AMC's always had them, in Jeep form.
