Yes, it's alive. The truck I dragged home last August is alive. Some of y'all know the twisting turning saga of this, but long story short...it lives. New master cylinder, new pads and shoes, new windshield, replaced dashpad, Explorer seats, changed the front from the square eyed muscle (shudder) to a round eye razor  the way Jeeps are supposed to be, put stepside fenders from a Dodge on it, blahblahblah...it was a rush job (I know...you're thinking "what's rushed about August to May?" but that's part of the long story).

No pictures of the quasi-finished product until next week since I'm moving this weekend (another part of the long story), but suffice to say that another J truck is alive and well.

Steve

ps: still looking for a couple little thangs, so check out the "wanted" section :)

This is great news Steve! Great for you that you kept the truck and got it running. I hope you can be driving it regular soon!

Good for me because I now abolutely have no need to feel guilty for scrapping this one. There is balance in the world... ;)

Flint, dem's Dodge fenders...Chebby ones were a little too round looking and the Dodgers have a nice squared line that flows nicer I think. The one thing I do/don't like is they sit just a little more inboard than the Jeep ones do...must be that muy macho Jeep wide track that does it  . It looks cool with about 3/4" of tire sticking out but it does the nasty with clearance...loaded up the wheel opening edge of the fender sits about 1" above the tire. I guess I'll continue on with hunting down some rear flares and cutting the fender.

Dale, the more I look at it the more I love the look of a browless :hide: can with the razor front. Also, if you look close you can see the high backs of the Explorer buckets. They were almost a perfect drop-in fit...just had to drill a new holes in the bottom of the seat. WAY more comfortable than the Jeep seats. The only down on them is that they're sitting a teeny bit too inboard for my liking...not a big deal on the passenger side but on the drivers it has me ever so slightly offcenter to the steering wheel.

For now it is what it is...held together with airplane glue and duct tape until the move is done! This weekend!! And then back to buttoning it up :D

Also, one little tidbit of information for you single guys...if you look at the picture with the square eyed (shudder) muscle grille front you'll notice a cat beside the truck. The pic with the new round eyed razor? A hot blonde. Just sayin'

Now Jerry...you don't need another rig for your stable. Besides, you already have a piece of this truck hanging in your garage. ;)

That might be why he is going to part it out:D. He don't need anything extra horny around there.

Steve, how did you convert the square to round headlights? I have all the stuff to convert my 86 to a razor but the bucket mounting holes are way off.

Steve, not debating, just reporting in again... ;) In contrast a 1975 Dodge Stepside in black and an 82 in yellow. This style stepside fender was used on Dodge trucks from 1956 through the early 80s.

Boys boys boys...I took 'em off the Dodge pickumup myself. I suppose it's possible that at some point the fenders on the Dodge were switched for Chebbs but all I know is it was a Dodge truck I was hacking on.

I did it the easy way Scott...I used a valance off a round eye Jeep.

You can do it with the square headlight valance...just need to weld a tab or two. If you do a search I think Tad maybe? has a run-through on how it all works. But if you can nab the valance off of an earlier Jeep that's the way to do it imo.

I think the "other" fenders look real good on your truck. Especially accents the shaved brow. ;) :D

Back in the 70s dodge did a step side truck they called the california.

They got in trouble with Chevy because they copied Chevy step side fenders.

Not too many were built. I think they only made them for 2 years, 78-79

So they very well could be dodge fenders.
