View Full Version : So which way does the PCV valve go?

After reading last week about problems that can be caused by a PCV valve in the wrong position, I decided to check mine since the PO messed some other things, including the vacuum routing.

All the references I checked said to note the position of the current valve before installing a new one, which doesn't help determine if the current valve is in the wrong position.

So, should the skinny end face toward the carb or toward the manifold? It's an in-line PCV valve for a '78 Chero. Anybody know?

Thanks.

I can't speak to the skinny end but you want the flow to come out of the crankcase and into the manifold. The PCV valve is basically a check valve and only flows one way.

If I recall correctly, skinny end up. Try blowing through it. If you can blow through, take that end, and stick it in the engine. Do wipe it off first smile.gif Good luck

Look on the sides of the PCV valve, and it should tell you with arrows which end goes to the manifold (it's the little end, BTW!! AMHIK). And it can cause all kinds of nasty things, the main one is major oil consumption, and major blow by from the combustion chamber.

Thanks. I'll try that.

And I will wipe it off first.

It's been a lot of work getting this to work properly. At first, I just wanted it to go. Now I want it to run like a bat out of hell.

Hey, I can dream, can't I?
