Tank vents

I need to know where all the vent hoses go on my 78 wag. Theres this little vacuum size hose coming off the tank by the filler hoses. It gos nowhere just sitting there. Now what I belive is called the rollover check valve snakes it way from the tank up into the back fender inside. There is a small 3/16" steel line that runs from it down by the filler asembly its rusted off and plugged with mud.

Since all this stuff is screwed up can I simplify and go back to the older style system? Which is just vented through the cap right? My 77 truck doesnt have anything like this.

I have no clue if its venting right as there is a hole rusted in the top of tank thats being the vent right now :eek:

I used some regular brake-line from a parts-store to replace that rusted line on mine and hook it up to the vacuum line that's dangling on yours. It's far from the ideal setup; better would be an evap canister under the hood, which I may retrofit someday.
