Though I have been reading this forum for a while, (and have gotten some great information), this is my first time posting a question and it's a pretty stupid one (stupid enough to not be in my book or on this forum anywhere).

How do you remove the window on the steering column with the "P R N D 2 1" without breaking it?

While at the junk yard getting various parts for my 79 wagoneer, I grabbed the little plastic indicator (the one that slides and points at the gear you are in) but the "window" was already removed from the column so the little indicator was just sitting there. When I got home and attempted to remove mine, I couldn't find anything attaching it. Does the "window" just snap in place and I just need to pull on it? I just don't want to break it, there is enough broken on my jeep without me adding more!

O.K -pull the wheel thete is a "ring" that the turn sig. stuff is on 2bolts hold this to the column remove them and on the back of the ring there are 2 screws that hold the window to the ring.. thats how it is on a late 60's and I think should be about the same.
hope this helps

Catching up on some missed threads and saw this. On my 73 trans indicator window, there are 2 small metal clips at the base of the window that simply push out from front to back and then the window lifts up. BE CAREFUL! The clips are real easy to lose and the plastic of the window is brittle from being cooked over the years by the sun. I used one of those tiny screwdrivers with the magnet on the end to push the clips out.
