This truck(258 I6) was for sale in chicago. Frame was bad---kind of like if you drop a graham cracker, what do you get? Also, look at pictures. Rust every where!! At least the grille guard was cool!! It's a 1986 model with 118K. Brake does work, but goes to floor. Ya know how it is :). I tried to buy it. The guy wanted $500. Said to make an offer. I offered $350. The guy then said that the price was $1100. That is the lowest they would take. It has new motor, transfer case, carburetor, and I think transmission too.

I understand that he would want $1100, but no one will pay $1100 for it. Maybe $500, yes, but not $1100.

Why would people want to over haul a truck with rusty body?? Why would anyone here want to mechanically fix up this truck??

That guy might have some problems if he thinks someone will pay $1100 for that rust bucket.

I think $500 is O.K. if all of the running gear is newer and he can prove it.

From the pics I don't think it is that bad, I have driven worse. IF the frame was solid and the rest of the drive train was good I'd go maybe $800, but with the bad frame you were on track at $350 - that is for salt belt rigs anyway.
If I had a way to haul 3-4 trucks at a time I would run down south but several rigs and bring them back up here to resell...

Ive seen some just as bad for more. Seems some people see rust free low mileage immaculate gws for $20-$30k and think they could get a couple grand for a rust bucket just because its a gw. I probably paid more for my gw than most would but I calculated how much it would cost to fix one in bad shape and feel better about it. Mine needs a little body work but it has 55k miles and the interior is as good condition as it could be for a 20 year old daily driver.

If he's got all the paperwork on the rebuilds I might would go 5 bills, but from my perspective you're buying a drivetrain and a load to haul to the scrapyard...
