What all is involved with a body lift? What size body lifts do they make? Thanks Dennis

What are you sticking the lift under?

I was thinking of a 4" lift with a small body lift for 1981 J10.

You can get a 1,2,3 inch lift for your rig from here.

tyres international (http://www.tyres1.com/browse/browseS.html)

Make sure to count the "points" before ordering the lift to make sure you get the right amount of pucks in your kit. I am ordering one of these on Monday. The way I understand it is that you may have to do some mods to the tranny linkage, Move the radiator down 3 inches and make sure you have enough brake line. Oh yeah, get a couple of foolish buddies to come over to help with the promise of beer and food. :D There are plenty of other posts on this subject in the tech file so if you want more info just do a search.

Gwamp - if you could, please post a part # for the kit you get, I looked through all of the listings and I didn't see a wagoneer lift. Does it use the same as a J truck ??

I am getting PA-923 + extra two pucks. I have 14 points and the kit only comes with 12 pucks. I don't know if I can get the pucks from them or if I am going to have to search around some more and get the singles somewhere else. The specs on the various kits are here:

Hey keep us posted on how it goes!

Does the kit include an extender for the transmission and TC?

And don't give out the beer until they are done!

I used the PA kit on my 65 and while it does come with a weld on extender for the tranny (automatic only) linkage it does not have one for the t/case. For the D20 crowd this means either a giagantic hole in the floor or twin stick time. For the Q/trac bunch it means making a rod out of 1/4" round stock (if you have low range). When lifting the early Ross steering system rigs there will be trouble with the steering colunm unless you go to a later model front crossmember and saginaw steering setup, which means finding either a later steering colunm (up to 70 or 71) or modifying a later model column by shortening the shift collar and removing the bracket mounting nuts and drilling a hole for the locater pin and using the original column's firewall mount by putting it on the new column. This is what I did as I did not have the proper column at the time. I do now, but have not changd it out.
The brake lines on the later rigs have enough flex in them to allow them to be used as the only line affected by the body lift go from the master cylinder to the prop valve. The old rigs will have to have new lines made. This would be a good time to go to alater dual master cylinder and power brake as you can use a late model set up by drilling 2 holes installing the late model brake pedal (it bolts in), power booster, m/c, and prop valve. There is enough slop in the wiring to allow for the lift.

I will post the results here when I get it all finished and take pictures and post a "how to" on my website. Thanks for the tip on the low range cable! I didn't even think of that one. I have to dig up some flat stock to make some bumper mounts too
