View Full Version : What do FSJ members use their rigs for??

Wagoneerlover

Ok everyone,

Just curious to know what everyone primarily uses their rig for. (if you have multiple rigs select an answer for each rig.)

Mine is my daily driver. (It sees limited offroad and tow usage)

The currently running one is the 82 J20, it's ugly plows snow, hauls stuff, tows trailers, extra daily driver, whatever I need it to do.

87 J20 is apart fot paint, it will do summer DD sometimes, tow trailers, car shows and cruises.

88 wag, when done will be summer driver for my wife, and camper puller.

Bent the rules a little -- sorry -- three answers, one Jeep.

It's my daily driver, but I do have another car in that same role. Moreover; I drive my little sports car through the winter when there's only one passable road around here, and the Wagoneer once the high-clearance roads are more or less snow free. I also use it for trips between Colorado and South Carolina, usually towing a trailer.

There is no one answer that applies to me and my jeep.

My Cherokee is my third vehicle so it does seem to be more of a weekend driver but when ever i get the chance to drive it i do. But on the other hand when the wife's car or my truck break down it becomes my daily driver as well. And then by default it is my work truck,

But it always the one I go wheeling with.

It does earn money.
I drive it in town.
I drive it on the highway.
I do tow with it.
I will beat on it, as long as it's not too much $$ to get it home, then I'm sort of cautious.

Mines my weekend warrior, trailer towing, vacation vehicle. From spring through fall it's a semi daily driver sharing duty with my Suburban though if the whole family is going we pretty much always take the Suburban since it fits us much better. Most of my camping trips I pull my travel trailer with my Wag, and it see's some two track time, nothing serious though, mainly a pavement pounder. All in all I only put about 6-7,000 miles a year on my Wag and NEVER drive it in the winter.

General-purpose off-roader with an emphasis on slow, ragged trails. Also a toy/project, and the more I work on it the less I want to take it off-road because it's getting older and rarer every year.

Currently use mine (ours) as a daily driver and a hauler (lumber, parts, grandkids, etc.) As I get it in better shape  it will also be my transport to property in n.w. az. that has 8.5 mi. of rough trail to my 2nd. home.

Mine 87GW is my mostly-daily-driver. It shares the duty with a 97 buick Regal GS. I've been driving the GW all of this month. I put about 18K miles on it last year. Driving my regular monthly circuits visiting county courthouses in IN. Plus half a dozen trips down to south-central TN. About the only time I use the Buick exclusively is in the heat of the summer (the Jeep AC does not work)

strangely enough though the Buick gets darn near 3 times the mileage, the requirement for super grade gas in the supercharged, higher insurance, bigger $$ maintenance translated to an all-in operational cost that is not all that much greater than the Jeep

There needs to be a poll choice of "Garage/Fair Weather Queen" thats where mine fits in. I do go to local car cruises with it to support the other AMC/Jeep crowd. I bought mine for hauling my windsurfing gear. So far, it's only done that twice. Once to bring it to the beach house and, yesterday, to bring it home from the beach house. Now that the Wagon is much more dependable, I will be able to haul my gear to various beach spots for ideal conditions.

Between windsurfing, it takes me and my family out in the woods where I teach them about areas that are "naturally unpaved." I am blessed with a take-home car from work so I don't drive my wagon unless 8mpg is warranted.

Lucky for me, the whole family loves the Wagon.

I currently use a '77 J-10 that is not fairing to well these days. I am building a '75 J-20 to replace it and then will give the J-10 the much needed rebuilds it so needs.

Then theres the wrecker that is one of those very slow projects that doesnt get to see much love because of the job thing.

I have the CJ5 dad bought new. As well as several other projects in the works....

The Cherokee is currently waiting to be put back together. I need to finish assembling the 401, then install it with the NV4500/Dana 300 combo. It will go back and forth from daily driver and weekend warrior.

The Gladiator will get started on once I finish the Cherokee. Then I will have to track down some axles (leaning towards a 10 bolt/14 bolt combo for now), decide on how I will repower (4.0/NV3550/D20, 4BT/T19/D20, 4BT/NV4500/???,LS/???/???), and then do some body work. It is currently sitting behind the shop and I have no idea what it will be used for when it is finished. If it is finished, maybe my daughter will drive it in 13 years.

To think that my daily driver used to be a fancy new Audi A4. Thirty miles to the gallon, 0-60 in about six seconds, superb handling, comfortable ride :)...

But then last October the twins were born! And my wife soon got tired of riding with the dog on her lap.

So my dad took pity and gave me his old '91 Grand Wagoneer. (Thanks Dad!)

Now the Waggy is our "daily driver." Twelve miles to the gallon (up from 8 after I rebuilt the carb), 0-60 in about six minutes, wandering handling ...

But I gotta say I love it. Every Friday the Waggy carries the wife, the dog, the twins (and all their baby gear) and me from Manhattan to our farm upstate. On Monday morning it carries us back to the city. Two hundred mile round trip. With help and guidance from what I've learned here, the Waggy is running stronger, faster and more comfortably. Yippee. :drivin:

That sounds like a really heavy duty setup! What do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking?

Mine usually sees weekend duty, but on the weekend it hauls dirt, rock (1 yard at a time), lumber, drywall (I'm trying to complete my 24' x 40' garage). It does whatever I need it to do. Every once in a while it'll take me to work, but it scares the faint of heart!

I use it for everything, truly an all perpose vehicle. It goes to car shows, gets me to and from school, gets groceries, offroads, hauls lumber, etc.

Jack-jack the Jeep-Jeep is being worked into Wife's DD but tows, hauls bricks, pulls lesser vehicles out of ditches, provides tail wagging rides for four legged children and smiles to two leggers. Just hauled 2000 lbs of leaves to the dump, good Jack-Jack. :fsj:

I gotta call it a weekend warrior. I drive it evenings (after work) and weekends. kinda my DD other than getting to work (100mi round trip). it takes me on my hunting excursions, and the kids want the waggy when i pick them up at daycare. definitely my favorite jeep to drive on the road, and thats including my wifes hemi grand cherokee, waggy's better 150% . The only thing that sucks is i am looking at winter in PA and the road salt... Itll be parked till the salt is gone.:banghead:

I am going to hold off on my vote for a week or two.... it is supposed to be a daily driver (and a zombie hunter/killer). I plan to sell my Dodge truck and drive The Falcon off into the sunset.
