Anyone converted from mechanical to hydraulic? I had to move "crossover arm" for clutch when swapping from 258 to 360 with headman headers and now having clutch linkage problems. thought changing to hydraulic might be the answer

been there, done that.we just finished swapping a t18a into an xj cherokee and had tried to use the hydraulic cylender to move the clutch fork.we made a bracket to hold it in the correct position, but no matter how we adjusted it,no matter how much we bled it,and no matter how much me reinforced the bracket to keep it perfectly rigid, the slave cyl would not move the arm enough to disengage the clutch enough to shift into gears with the engine running. the reason we were having trouble is the heavy duty pressure plate we were using that had three big fingers instead of a bunch of them surrounding the whole center. the guy at the driveline shop said even if we could get it to move enough to disengage the clutch,in a very short period we would start eating up slave cyls, master cyls, and blowing seals. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif the only option according to him was to swap out the pressure plate,or make mechaical linkage. having allready spent the $$$ and not wanting to wrestle the tranny around again,we opted to make mechaical linkage.

what type of linkage probs are you having? are your headers designed for a manual trans? id think in your particular situation, you prolly need to work out the mechanical linkage,it will prolly be less trouble, and more reliable. part of your prob might be that you are using 6 cyl linkage with a v8.i think they are alittle different, since the six sits back further in the engine compt. is this the case?or have you swapped your 6 cyl linkage for v8 linkages allredy?

Gee, I was gonna post a simular question..
I've a '62 J-300 with a Hydraulic clutch... What's the change of retroing in a mechanical setup? Easy/hard? cheap/expensive?
It has the 230 tornado I6, and I theink a t90 3 spd...
