I know this topic pops its head now and then, but I've missed some points on it and was wondering if anyone has some "down pat" info or links to info on doing ignition upgrades to our old beasts.
Some of the info only lists "certain" donors and some for GM HEI and some for Ford type coil changeovers. Was wondering more specifically on the following:
'76 J10 with a 360....this would have the '75-77 style ignition(screw top coil) and would like to know what all would it take to upgrade to Ford Style(higher juice too) ignition.
'78 J10 with a 258....which has the '78+ horseshoe coil....and would like to upgrade to the higher juice Ford Style.
'74 J10 with a 258....am asking for someone else. They mentioned the GM upgrade to me, but I was wondering about the Ford style and what it would take.
By "what it takes" I'm wondering ideally what one would need to GET from a parts store..."NEW" parts...not just used from a boneyard. Thus, instead of looking for an '81 F150 with a 351 or whatever, WHAT would you "order" at the parts counter: coil, cap(rotor, distro, etc.?), wires, plugs, anything else? And, what about plug gap?
Like I noted, I've seen "some" info on this, but don't have "all" of it bookmarked and was hoping maybe someone had a really clear description for the procedure that would help! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks....
