View Full Version : Turn Signal Lever (Limp)
My turn signal went "limp" the other day on the 75 cherokee. Viagra has had no effect on it, yet. It doesn't activate any signals left or right. The signal lights themselves all worked previously and it just broke going down the highway. Also, another weird problem is after the turn signal broke, the horn started blowing intermittently, especially on turns to the right.
Sounds to me like I need a new switcheroo...What is your expert opinion and is this a big job to do? Is this something I can buy at an auto parts store, or do I need a junk yard?

Your turn signal switch broke or maybe the actuator cam.And is probably shorting your horn contacts. You have to pull the steering wheel to change it out.Haybes or chiltons show how if you have done it before. You'll need a steering wheel puller. Some days memory doesn't work well.Go to auto parts and get a new one. These kinds of parts are better off new because of wear.

You might also need a lock plate spring compressor in order to get the retaining ring out that holds the spring loaded lockplate in. All the turn signal stuff is under that.

Yeah, the plastic roughly disc-shaped thingamabob that allows the metal signal lever to actuate and contact the right and left signal contacts.... On my '77, it has failed and been Crazy-Glued back together - for a grand total of ten minutes :( Does anyone have a better way to remake one or somewhere to buy? It has to be a non-conductive material (of course). I even talked myself out of making one out of wood. Didn't seem practical, but at least I stopped crying and cussing and hoppoing up and down beside the road.
