I have pretty much decided to get a new 360 for the GW and am having trouble decidig where to get it? Power-Pro has a good price and a good warrantee, so does Jasper but they are $800 more expensive.

Any advice from someoene who has been down this road would be appreciated.

Money is not really the problem, i need to make this decision soon.

thanks,

Steve

i had my mechanic explain the difference in Jasper and other rebuilds:

basically it boils down to reconditioned rods, valves, etc in most rebuilds to all new stuff in a Jasper. He used to use other companies and actually made more profit using them but found that he got more returns and p'od customers with the cheaper engines.

just an opinion...

I have a Jasper Re-man in my Grand Wagoneer. Never had one problem, and it has a great warranty. Maybe worth the extra bucks???

Jasper has a really good rep. With them anyway you get what ya pay for.

Well, word to the wise about PowerPro engines.

1. The web prices are not "current". When you call to order the 360, they change the price to $1425 plus the core charge.

2. The 5 year / 100,000 mile warranty is so filled with loopholes that blame faulty installation that it makes me leery that I will ever get my warranty honored. The engine parts have to be returned to them before they replace them. Not so with Jasper.

3. At PowerPro they do not ask for the casting number of your old engine, so you end up with an engine that is a one-size-fits-all AMC engine. On mine, this meant that countless bolts had to be replaced, holes rebored etc etc. Hours of extra labor! Jasper gets the exact engine that you are taking out.

4. PowerPro rebuilds do not come with valley pan or front timing cover. Jasper does. Consider that there is a good chance your oil pressure is low because of the old timing cover, it is pointless to put the old one one. So count these two items toward the cost of the PowerPro.

5. After receiving, but before installing the engine, I called PowerPro and asked about the fact that the front cover is not included. I asked them what kind of oil pressure do they deem acceptable with a new engine. The guy told me that 15 psi is all they guarantee at warm idle on the 360. And that if it is lower than that, you must put a new front cover on first to see if that alleviates the low pressure before they will warranty the engine.

Well the engine is in, and I have good pressures, runs well and doesn't rattle too much. But in hindsight, I wished I went with the Jasper.

i have a chain remanufactured block, i believe the brand is suntide or something like that. i would suggest to go with the jasper. with all the money i have spent to maintain the engine and take care of the Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogleyty workmenship i could have shelled out for a better block. i spent $1500 or so for the long block and heads. it was an okay deal but i wish i had a little more dependabiltiy out of it. this is just my opinion not everyone has had the problems i have,

I am considering buying a rebuilt engine from RECON. You can purchase these engines from Pep Boys or Advance Auto. Summit sells these engines in their catalog for small block chevys. The web site is:
http://www.reconengines.com/index2.html

I was quoted $ 1,359.99 plus a $ 250.00 core charge.

Does anyone have any experience with these engines?
