View Full Version : MY 401 IS REBUILDABLE!!

Got it apart today, one fragged piston, but no trashed cylinders. So now I have a build-able 401 to work on as time and money permit.:thumbsup:

Looks like a bearing spun and tried to lock up the rod on #8 as it was going up. Pin is almost ripped out the bottom of the piston and the skirt is blown to bits.

No scarring in the cylinders at all.

Now...... do I stroke , it or not..........:p.

When in doubt, stroke it out! :D Congrats on the happy news. I'm still dreaming about finding a good 401 block for my rig.

You can stroke a 401? Didn't know it was possible.

Now if you're referring to re-boring the cylinders, I don't think that would be necessary unless internal cylinder measurements indicate otherwise.

No not sleaving cylinders, offset grinding the crank and using.... honda journal, I think it is, chevy rods gets something like 437ci stock bore and up too 443 @.030 over.

Thats a ways down the road yet though, just glad my core is good.
