While visiting a garage I frequent for business purposes I observed a guy taking aluminum suspension parts off a new Prowler and buffing them to a brilliant (chrome-like) shine.

I'm wondering if I might get similar results with the grille and other parts such as the door sill plates? The grille has some scratches and a little paint overspray I'd like to get rid of and I can't help but salivate over the prospect of a shiny brite front!

I used to use Mothers Polish on my Norton Commando,It takes time, but saves taking parts off and polishing them with a wheel.I highly recomend it.Never really used anything else.Hope this helps. To get the paint off use fine Bulldog Steel Wool.Providing your grill is aluminum.

Well I assumed the grille is aluminum, any one know for sure?

P.S. Norton Comando! Nice! What year? I used to want a Harley, but too many yuppies ridin em just to be seen spoiled it for me. Classic English Cafe stylin...that's as cool as drivin a Grand Wagoneer! I plan on buyin a new Triumph when finances allow, I'd like a classic but I want dependability too!

Sorry guys I know this is not a subject to be taking space in the Tech forum.

I believe that your grille is plastic with chrome-like coating on top. To get a metal grille you gotta go round lights and 60's era. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif You might be able to get your plastic replated, but I have no idea where. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif

I guess we are both right in that we are talking about different parts of the grille assembly. For lack of the correct term I am referring to the metal (assume aluminum) part that encirlcles the inner grille (which IS chrome plated plastic) as well as the headlights.

Any one interested in having plastic rechromed can find a source in the "Services" section of Hemmings Motor News. I plan on taking the plastic chrome trim from my inner door armrests in to have them redone some time this spring, I found a place in Fort Worth about 20 miles from where I live. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.
