The plastic washer fluid tank has the pump plugged into it at the lowest corner I think. It's probably brown, about the size of a C or D battery, and you can pull it out and test it.

I don't know about the switches used for it in your 86 or 78 years but it could be that too.

Yep, about the size of a D battery plugged into the bottom/side of the tank. But it isn't made to just "pull out". I've torn one all up and haven't gotten it out yet. Anyway, I haven't found a similar motor/pump to replace it with at the parts stores . The stealership says they are available - tank with pump already installed - but I haven't gotten desperate enough to give him the $84 he wants for it! If anyone has a good idea, I'd like to hear it.

If you pull it out, good luck getting it to go back on without it leaking. I bought another tank and pump combo off of ebay to replace mine after I pulled it off. The motor didn't work on the ebay one, so I drilled the rivets out and swapped motors. I have to seal the motor a little better, but it works.

I just got finished pulling mine off and repaired it and put it back in. it has a snap ring on the inside. I just pulled and twisted it until it came out, then realized the ring. mine was making noise but wouldn't pump any water. I took it apart, (there are 3 phillips screws holding it together) wire wheeled it, and put some grease on all the points of friction(not the brushes) and put it back together. It is basically the same as doing a starter except smaller.

I'm gonna get a bulb type hand pump (like the ones you use to prime a boat motor with gas) and run a hose from the washer tank into the cab with the bulb next to the dimmer switch and then run a hose to the nozzles. Anytime I need a squirt I'll just squish it with my foot. :D

I gave mine a good twist and quite a few good yanks and it came right out. Although the hole was a little elongated after it came apart. I cleaned it all up, put it all back together, and put a bead of RTV around the seal to completely seal it up. It stopped a leak I had before and the pump works great.
