I've installed a nice Kenwood deck on my J-4000. I also added some custom 3x6 speakers in the void behind the door latch. It sounds great with the engine off. When I start the truck or drive it then starts cutting in and out. It does it not matter if I play my ipod, FM, CD, they all start skipping. I've wired directly to the battery and grounded directly to the chassis. The battery is good at 12V and jumps to 13.5 while running so I know the alternator is working.

I've installed at least 20 stereos and never had this problem.

Any thoughts? What the hell is interferring with it?

The battery is grounded to the engine block not the chassis? Could that be it. How should a JTruck be grounded? Any one know where the factory ground spot is?

HELP!!

Make sure you also have a ground from the neg cable to the body. And engine to frame wouldn't hurt either.

I agree with the prievious post . Ground the battery to the chassis. On my old cherk there was a ground strap aroud the right motor mount Believe. Also if you really want t have a nice quiet stereo install buy a 18awg shielded pair type wire. The wires are twisted around one another inside a metal Brade. The twisting cancels out most of the noise and the braid (the shield) takes out the rest. The shield should be grounded at the battery.

So what you will have is a twsted shielded pair deliverng power and ground all the way from the battery to your radio. You won't hear alternator whIne ever.
but that's only f you wanna get fancy or are reAlly having a noise problem.
