:(

Hey guys, I know it's been a while since anyone has heard from me on here but that's because the jeep has been holding up pretty good, lol ...but a week ago she really went downhill. I have exaust pressurizing/venting to the inside of my crankcase so I figure it's either a bad ring or a hole in a piston :banghead: No EGR since the edelbrock intake/HEI upgrade.. Dunno , if I gotta do all that, I should just throw a long-block in there and if I gotta do that, maybe I should just get somethin' newer. Gotta have something dependable...any thoughts??

You do have a working PVC on it right?

X2 - if the PCV is clogged/non-functional, than pressure (and gasses) from combustion will build in the crankcase.

Do a compression check too, that may lead you to the problem if it's not the PCV.

If the PVC is working, and your oil cap vent isn't clogged, it could be intake gasket failure. I had that happen on a Ford once. The gasket failed where the exhaust crossover through the intake was. My oil cap vent was clogged, the filter deteriorated and blocked the vent. It would blow the oil cap off the filler neck when revved.

I doubt it's a hole in a piston, you would know for sure. It would run really rough.

No PVC... changed it when I put on the intake....no smog stuff either... Cap vent was clogged and I was puking oil out of the dipstick tube, took filter out of cap, plumbed a hose for venting down by the tranny, now no oil from the dipstick tube but mucho exaust from the cap vent. I cleaned the engine and when I got back, I noticed one of the intake bolts bubbling where the water pooled up on the intake....torqued those down. still getting 70-80 lbs showing on oil pressure gauge, somebody said relief valve on oil pump but that wouldn't be getting exaust in the crankcase... could be intake gasket I guess but I noticed when I did a compression test last summer I had a dying soldier #1 I think was way low :(

You really should put a pcv valve on it. That should help with your problem.

Not disagreeing with you man but how would a valve stop the pressure problem?? The case is venting thru the cap but exaust is going past the ring to the case I'm pretty sure..

There will always be some blow by, espescially on a used motor. Without PCV there will be significant combustion gases escaping through the filler tube, or where ever else they can get out.

How far out of line was the low cylinder?

i went through this same problem when i got my someone blocked off the pcv system and didn't even have a cap on the oil fill tube. Cased mass oil leakage from various places do to engine pressure and coated the underside of my hood with oil from the fill tube got a new cap routed it to the air cleaner hooked up a pcv valve and plumbed it to the brake booster hose with a tvalve (lack of a pcv port on my carb) and been great ever since only oil leak after that was from the rms.

I don't remember the exact ##'s but it was pretty low and that was a year ago... I could put the stock manifold back on, it still has the PCV on it and see where that goes, I just think, in my gut-it's a ring. It was missing on a cyl. until the motor warmed up a little then -boom- no miss, it wasn't gradual, it was all of a sudden hitting on all 8. Sounds like a stuck ring tg me, now it won't unstick... sigh... one way to tell I guess.

Your Aftermarket intake has a PVC hole in it, rather than the tube that the late model OEM intakes had it has a big hole for a grommet that the
PVC valve plugs into. Look at the back toward the passanger side the PVC hole is there.
