the back wells behind the rear wheels are filling up with water when it rains, i posted about this before and several people said it was the windows and just to run a bead of rtv, first off, on the outside or inside? I drilled weep holes, but im worried it will still start rusting. IS it possible for the wood grain to leak? i know it is attached somehow, any experiences/ideas are appreciated, tommororw i guess i will see if i can test it withg a garden hose to trace it any further. Is this common?

I believe so bob, both mine have rust in them. Window seals leaking could very well be a source. I can't really think of any other way for water to get in there. Your waterhose idea sounds like a good one

There are factory drain holes immediately behind the wheelwells; clear those out, clean out all the sediment that is clogging them up, and let it drip.

I don't believe Jeep designed the rear wells to be absolutely watertight.

BB is correct, if you keep those drainage holes washed-out it will really stop the standard rust-out that occurs there.

Get a "north east" waggie, you won't have to worry 'bout them drain holes. I have plenty of daylight where mine used to be smile.gif

You mean to tell me the rear panels are NOT supposed to have fist sized rust holes in them?

I figured it was for better airflow! smile.gif

I drilled about 2 holes on each side about 5 years ago and just make sure they don't get clogged up.

I think another way for them to fill with water is through the roof rack mounts and possibly the tailights.

If you want to make your own home-made drainholes anywhere, after drilling thru, coat the hole with liquid electrical tape, glue, anything to seal the metal from moisture or it'll just start rusting wider. Cover the hole from the inside with a bit of bronze wool [see a boat or wood-finishing store for that] or at least a layer or two of plastic screening, glued to the inside surface, to keep water & road crud OUT of the inside place you want to drain. Water will still seep out.
