When my 79 J-10 with a 258 has been setting out all night it is hard to crack. It is near impossible without starter fluid, and when cold backfire. I though maybe the accerlater pump was going out on the carb. But I am not for sure. If this is the problem what is the best way going about rebuilding the carb. or replacing it.

as far as gas.... you could pull the air horn, and see if you have gas in the bowl or... try pressing the throttle all the way down a few times.... in fact if you have a helper, look down the throat of the carb.... if there is gas squirink....do not start the engine.... or you may fry your eyebrows......

also check timing.

The carb. is a one barrel. I have lined up a person to rebuild the carb. this weekend. So if everything goes to plan, I will know what the problem is by sat. night.
