maybe i am crazy but i have gone as far as i can on my 79 wt. i "found" a75 1 ton IH pick up with the above running gear(also 203? divorced t/c).i plan to move my gas tank, adapt a 20 T/C,add lockers. the gearing is 5.32, the 70 is a closed knuckle with factory spring over. here's the rub...the stering knuckles face rearward.....can i swap right for left to get them forward to use my saginaw box? this could be the deal killer??? any one know about this 70 axle... help...thanks

I use to have a 3/4ton IH (71). It had the closed knuckle D60 with front linkage. had a very heavy duty tie rod guard. Down side, the D60 (and maybe the 70) used a brass cone in the top of the knuckle instead of a roller bearing. I finally got rid of mine because of this high wear\scarce part would eat tires.

i cant really comment on getting it to work(have never looked at a d70 in an IH) but i just wanted to say i like yor line of thinking-isnt there a saying that goes something like "make it it twice as strong as you think it should be,and it will be just about right."

going with that philosophy, why not use the gm 205?you can adapt it much cheaper than an aftermarket d20 adapter by using the OEM gm th400 tailshaft and 205 adapter. the low range is about the same, you can make a twi stick shifter for a 205,and its substantially bigger and stronger than the 20.the 20 is a good strong case, but the 205 is physically almost twice the size.the 205 prolly would give you more room for a beefier front driveshaft as well...

definately let us know how it turns out.

Most dana 70 frontends are not that much stronger than a dana 60, the axleshafts are probably 16 0r 23 spline in the front dana 70, I would get the eaton rear, and go with a dana 60 front from a big three product, I would just like to add that I also love internationals, and was contemplating getting a terra on 35's (too much rust), but it is up to you, and if the knuckles don't interchange you could go high buck and have a hydraulic steering setup designed for your rig.
