Okay guys I have done a search on this but do not find any "great" info on how to do it.

What is the best way to get the rotor seperated from the hub to replace it???? I have not tried but am doing it this weeked because I am still having brake issues....and one is warpped. Any help is greatly appreciated. I was thinking to knock the crud out of it with a rubber mallet but want to know if anyone else has a better way. TIA. ;)

not for certain but i thing they might be pressed on and a press would be involved in removing and installing. I could be wrong since ive never done the brakes on a FSJ.

If you're replacing the rotor, you should probably replace the studs at the same time. In that case, you can knock them out yourself. Lay the rotor/hub combo face-up on the ground, rest a sledgehammer on the tip of one of the bolts, and knock the other flat of the sledge with a heavier sledge. This will pop the stud out in one knock. If you are concerned about saving the rotor, do it on a piece of wood.

To install the new rotor on the hub, you can draw the studs through the rotor and hub by placing them as securely as possible, then tightening a lug-nut down, using the wheel as a spacer if necessary.

Of course, if you're just having the rotors turned, leave them on the hub; it's easier for the shop to turn them that way.

most of he time the studs will come out fairly easily.i usually theaad the lugnut down so its flush, and wach it with a hammer.

ive reused studs ive removed in this manner, but wheelstuds are cheap and prolly worth the peace of mind to go ahead and repalce me while its apart.

get the little grooves lined up and tap the stud partially in,then you can use the lugnut to pull it the rest of the way thru. smile.gif

yeah, we just smack them square with a No-Bounce hammer at work. Pops them right out.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. Where is a good place to get the wheel studs???? Autoparts stores carry them?

I got some new cars so i'd be hav'n the "vacation" but the vacation is reading books at the dealership while you get warranty & recall service performed :( :( Some of the people that have seen the videos have chickened out of going to Ouray & silverton :D :D ......... ;) ..ds..

Now Now Don....My rig is not set up for climbing a side of a mountain. Although maybe someday the '79 will be worthy of some trails. Rather just fun and repairs and my daily driver. Although I am looking forward to Ouray, I am going to take you up on those videos soon enough. Whats this regarding warranty work. I have a lifetime warranty on my rig. When it breaks I fix it. No labor cost just busted knuckles and cussin' and an ocasional pat on the back :D Oh Oh and a few beers.... :D ;) I am looking forward to the videos..pm your number again. I will give you a ring this weekend.
