i hav 84 grand wagoneer 360-727-np229(i think).selec-trac

has anybody swaped in a manual tranny?

If so what kind?

it helps immensely to get a whole donor rig to take all the little parts from. if you dont want to swap your front axle,youll need to find an 80 and up rig with a 360 to take the tranny from. the 6 cyl sits further back in the engine compt,and it will complicate the swap to use a tranny from a 6 cyl rig.

your best options will be a t176 or a t18a. i wouldnt mess with a t5,or a t4.

the t176 is a medium duty trans that will hold up if not abused. the most durable would be the t18,tho theyre hard to find cheap,as they only came in the 80 and up j20.

in a nutshell,youll swap in the pedal assembly,bolt the bracket for the clutch linkage to the frame,and bolt the tranny in.obviously,youll also need to swap your flexplate for a flywheel. swap the cover from the donor rig,or cut a hole in yours.

if youre willing to swap frontends,you could get a whole pre 80 rig with a t18/d20. i personally feel its worth doing. youll find one alot quicker than youll find the t18/208. im using a 79 front axle in my 85,so that i could use the d300,and soon the 18. having a passenger side diff also leaves the option of usig a complete gm drivetrain with a 205. hmmmmm... http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif
