Well I mite have the oppurtunity to by a j10 from a guy at work. I dont know many details about the truck besides the motor was rebuilt and bored 30 over about 2 years ago and it has a snowplow. I havent asked him for complete details yet..Im going today tho. But it has the quadratrac transfer case and it broke. Thats all I know and hes thinking of getting rid of it because of that. Now if I were to end up with it, how expensive is it to rebuild one of those? And I will do it myself or well try but I dont want to buy it and be screwed cuz they either arent worth it or to complicated to do. If I am thinking right they are chain drive xfer cases right? And if thats it the chain just could be busted??? idk much about them but I have heard good and bad..Im just looking for options now lol.
Thanks,
Scurb

Check out the QuadraTrac link in my signature. This busted QT is probably a good opportunity to get a decent buy if you don't mind finding at least one more QT for spare parts. I typically do not pay more than $60 for one that I can not inspect but there are still plenty of them laying around the 4 Corners area. Chains and seal kits are easy to find. The differential (limited slip) inside is a common failure item and good used spares are almost unobtanium.

Thanks for the response. So from what I read from your link if the clutch pack is bad in it, I can replace it with a part time kit and not have to worry about it? And how would you go about diagnosing what is wrong with out tearing it apart?
Thanks

Without tearing it apart, it is mostly speculation on what is wrong. You can do a torque bias test on the differential and get an idea of the differential health. This tcase takes limited slip fluid (liquid gold). I use Mopar or TCL-1. Some have mixed their own blends. If it has anything else inside, no telling what could be wore out.

There is a torque bias test listed in there along with some other diagnostic info. Sorry it is so fuzzy. Been meaning to scan a better copy.
