lately i have been seeing alot of people running 15 inch rims on 3/4 and 1 ton axles. i was under the impression that a 15 inch rim would not fit over the larger brakes. i'm running 16.5 inch rims on my j10 but the thing is tires for them are hard to find and also very expensive. and i have alot of 15 inch tires but cant use them since i did my axle upgrade. could someone explain please.

What axles are you running? If they're J20 axles, just find you some 16 inch Chevy rims. I just bought a like new set for $100 to have extras for my 2500HD. Sixteen inch tires are everywhere and less expensive than 16.5's.

All you have to do is clearance your caliper just a hair with a grinder to run the 15" wheels.

how much do i need to grind off the calipers? one guy told me that a 3.75 back spacing is the way to go but i dont want to be really wide now im running a set of j20 axles i picked up for $200 with soa mounts welded on. i went with the original spring under for now because i dont have the money for a rear shackle flip yet, and steering components to make it all work with my 3'' rc springs

Summit's got several listed:

http://www.summitracing.com/search/Department/Wheels-Tires/Part-Type/Wheels/Wheel-Diameter/15-in/Wheel-Width-in/8-00-in/Wheel-Bolt-Pattern/8-x-6-1-2-in/?Ns=Rank|Asc (http://www.summitracing.com/search/Department/Wheels-Tires/Part-Type/Wheels/Wheel-Diameter/15-in/Wheel-Width-in/8-00-in/Wheel-Bolt-Pattern/8-x-6-1-2-in/?Ns=Rank%7CAsc)

Most of them have backspacing of 4" or more, so I'm not sure which ones will work. Prices starting at $42.00 each.

When I bought my 77 J20 (many years ago) it had 15"X10" white spokes on it. I don't remember how much back spacing the wheels had but it was enough that they cleared the calipers without any grinding, but the tires stuck out of the wheel wells a bit too much. I replaced them with 16.5"X10" aluminum wheels with more back spacing.

I have a set of 4" backspacing w/ 33x12.5x15 that I run on my Dodge 2500. I had to grind a bit on the calipers. When I moved them to my J20 axles w/ the CS530/531 calipers, I had to grind a lot and still rubbed. I'm thinknig the 3.75" might be better.

The grinding also depends upon the trueness of the wheel and the tolerance on the welds.
