Who here has installed the Doug Thorley tri-Y pipe headers in their FSJ?

How hard is it to install these?

I did . They came thrown in a box with next to no packing paper. Most hardware missing and scratched up chrome.

I let my mechanic install them since he was rebuilding the engine at the same time. I asked him if he had trouble and he said no. I think he said he had to slightly dent one tube, but I cannot verify that 3 years later.

I have no idea what they are like offroad but onroad for screaming down the highway they are excellent.

I can assure you that they don't come like this anymore, plus we don't even sell a chrome versions anymore.

also change spark plugs to rc12y instead of rn12y for smaller body(5/8 spark plug socket) for clearance.

Great pics!

On the loud, if you ran a cat converter, it would quiet it down a lot.

Also, we are phasing out the DT mufflers and are starting to use Magnaflow Mufflers. The sound is almost the same, just less glass-pack-like (less raspy, more throaty).

The loud concerns me. The whole point of doing the exhaust swap is to get rid of the annoyingly loud glass packs. I'm looking for something a lot closer to a factory like noise level.

If I want loud I have the GTO.

a dynomax super turbo would be pretty mellow.

That is why we phased out the DT muffler (we only have 2 left), a lot of our customers love the loud (it isn't too loud inside either)

I prefer quiet, no need to draw attention to yourself....those that hunt want quiet too. Had a stock Mustang, some early mornings I could not stand the sound of the exhaust. My brother has a Bronco with headers and flowmasters, when I drive I'll short shift, so as not to get in the higher rpms, and avoid the noise.

It's even more fun with dual 3" pipes in the GTO.

But driving the truck a mellow sound is what I'm looking for.
