The CFSJC had a work day/pre-season run through on Dickey Bell Trail last week end, and found out that the large storms we have had this past winter and some contract work the FS had done have changed the character of some sections of the trails fairly dramatically:eek: . After seeing the hill climb on Dickey Bell, and reading some reports from other clubs that have adopted trails, I can't wait to see the rest of the trail system. WoW!

I can't decide on tires for this year. Do I go with the 38" swamper SX's or the 37" BFG Krawlers? Looks like I may be trailering the Honcho down this year.

P.S. Did anybody find my camera yet?

I am planning now for the weekend, breaking out camping gear to get everything waterproofed. this is my first time. do I need a rookie stripe? ha! ha! Is there only one group camp? will someone at the outpost be able to tell me how to get to the camp? I only live 40 mins. from there so thought I'd go check things out this weekend. don't want to crowd anyone out by bringing an eight man tent and my stuff for the weekend. Do I need to get a trail pass to get into the camp. I want to see what this whole thing is about before I commit to runnin in them mud holes. So far my 76 J10 has only been a firewood hauler. anyway it sounds like a great getaway even if just watch ya'll tear stuff up lol.

No trail pass required to camp. But, to drive your rig on any trails you'll have to have one displayed.
The Badin Lake Group Camp is clearly marked on the map. You can pick one up for free at the Outpost on 109.
Plenty of room for an 8 man tent, camper, RV...
Your J-10 will do fine.See ya there!

Just bring your J-10 and don't worry about the rest. We can always use more J-trucks at ECI. It's getting too infested with those pesky little wagon things. :p Check the photo archives for pics of the campsites. PLENTY of room.

Why is it always "J-Truck vs. Wagoneer"... We're all FSJ lovers here, can't we all get along?

Honestly though, if I didn't need room for my little ones, I would have a truck. My brother has a '78 J20 with a 401, I'm jealous.

Just cleared the vacation time for the weekend. Not sure if I will show up Thursday night or Friday morning. I am staying at the group camp this year with the family and 19' camper.

Made 2 test runs this year, opening day and this month. I think I will have all the bugs worked out just in time for the big weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year!

Okay okay I know this is unlikely to happen given our late arrival times ( O dark thirty) in the past but... since we're heading down TUESDAY it could happen this year. If we get there around mid afternoon on Thursday, will the group camp be open and ready, in otherwords what time can we show up on thursday? And, does anyone know if there is a riding stable nearby where we can rent horses for a trail ride?

I also would like to know who is going to be there Thursday. I plan on getting there early to get set up and help with any last minute things that need to be done. Coming from Concord so I will be chomping at the bit to get out of the house. Really looking forward to this outing but don't want to be first one there. See ya'll soon.(NINE MORE DAYS !!!)

New Jersey, there is a large stable just across Hwy 9 from the Outpost. And there are a couple more close by IIRC. You could always ask at the outpost.

I too am planning on arriving Thursday morning, (which means I might get there sometime before Friday night  ).

Terry Moorefield aka The Hot Dog Guy will be making an appearance in the group camp on Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm. Or about the same time as the raffle/giveaway.

For those who do not know who he is, Terry has been vending hot dogs and telling "trail stories" on weekends at the big parking area/trailhead at URE.
Terry is a nice guy and has quite a following. He also is permitted as a vendor by the FS for this endeavor.

The Hot Dog Guy said he may have a surprise or two for us, and he will be selling his Dogs at a discount for the ECI.

The channels vary b/c there are usually several groups out on different trails simultaneously. Besides reception (CB & cell) in URE is spotty at best, so you usually have to be close by.

At the group camp, does each campsite have its own picnic table?

phatmax95
06-06-2010, 03:51 PM
Kind of.. depends on what you call a campsite. There are three campsite groups.. A, B and C. Each of these have several tables. You'll just have to come in and ride around and check it out.

Site A, the campsite that is to your right as you enter and go around the loop is reserved for the CFSJC hosts though.
