I have an 85 Waggy. I stretched the frame & put a DJ5 body and rear half of CJ7 on it. DCJ57. Need help wiring alt., volt meter and solenoid.
1) Is the excite wire key hot?
2) Where does the big wire from the alt plug go?
3) Which side of the solenoid is battery, or does it really matter?
4) I have the 10 gauge wire from solenoid going to hot side of volt meter. Is that correct?
5) Does ignition hot to module need a resister/diode?
This is the 2nd DCJ57 I've built. Los the first one in a fire. Must get this right. Thanks for any help!

excite wire is from ign positive but it has resistance to it (not sure how much) and the big wire from the plug on the alt goes back to the stud on the alternator

It does not matter if you want to put your battery cable on the other side of a Ford style solenoid. I'm not sure why you would need to, but mine is that way. Its just a big magnetic switch.
A voltmeter will not draw much current, so 10g is overkill. If its an ammeter, thats a different story.
Key on 12V to a Duraspark module does not need a resistor or diode, however most of our jeeps do not have a fuse in that line and it is possible that if the unit fails to a shorted state an electrical fire could result. I believe the same is true for Prestolite as well.

As in, complete DJ5 body as extended-cab pickup cab, with cut CJ7 as pickup bed?
I have often pondered similar things - I want PICS!

I HAVE GOT TO SEE A PICTURE OF THIS TRUCK!!!!
madelectrical.com has all the info needed to wire up the alternator.

Either of those sites (oljeeps or madelectrical) will give you the electric stuff but, I like simple so I went with a Delco 12si (maybe only a 10si, can't remember... don't get old!) one-wire alt like madelectrical sells. Just wire it to the battery or positive side of the ignition module and go.
And like everyone else has said...

I have a DJ5A just waiting for the right idea.

Very Nice! I like the rear taillights, the CJ seven slot grille, and the front turn signal lights in the grille panel instead of on top of the fenders like the later models. That DJ has a darn straight body. What's under the hood? I like the IH truck too. I'd post a picture of my 73 but it's in pieces getting ready for paint.

The body is perfect. Under the hood is a 4 cylinder from a Vega (It's what my brother had). The only thing it really needs is a steering gearbox.
The cornbinder has been converted to 2wd. Not sure if it runs or if my dad is ever going to do anything with it.

I have a 73 gearbox I have no use for anymore. I wonder if it will fit your DJ? Nothing is wrong with it.
