I have made up my mind to go with a diesel. The question is now do I go with a 6.2 with a Banks turbo, or a 6.5 with a factory turbo. The 6.2/Banks combo is rated for more power, so I'm kinda leaning that way. From a reliability standpoint, anyone have any input?

Thanks!

Thanks!Reliability is not an issue with either setup. The 6.5 turbo has an adjustable wastegate and if you dial in the injection pump anlong with the turbo, you can get close to the power the Banks setup produces. Dialing in/Bumping up the injection pump till you are getting maximum fuel in the chambers without black smoke makes a huge difference in these engines.

On a stock, low mileage CUCV Chevy military truck I used to have, I thought the 6.2 was running perfect. I went ahead and had the injection pump upgraded and blueprinted and dialed in for my engine. It was like swapping from a small block to a big block in the power difference.

Price will probably determine which way you want to go cause there is not that much difference between the 2.

A lot of uninformed people think these engines are pigs, there are a lot of 4 wheelers I know who love their GM diesels and their rigs perform great.

Make sure you get the mechnical pump not the Electric one. The 94 or newer engines will have the electric pump but I pretty sure you can remove the electronic one for a mechnical one. I would try to get a 95 or older. The 96 or 97 and up blocks had a problem with the waterline running to close to the piston causing leaks into the #8 cylinder. If you're not sure you can get in touch with AMG or the guys making the engines for Hummer http://www.amgeneralcorp.com/gepbroc/cover.html
They redesigned the block in 2001 after they bought the designs etc. from GM.
Diesel Depot in Sandersville GA can answer any questions you may have. Ask for Bennie or Jamie
These guys can get you the AMG Block. They also know their diesels. I'm trying to get my hands on a WT 79 Chief right now. I have a 94 2500 Burban that I'm going to pull the engine out of to put in the Chief if I can just get the title straightened out. Then I will get one of the new AMG blocks with the 18:1 Pistons and all the bells and whistles for the Suburban.

I can't find the TSB on the #8 Cylinder. But I'll look on my computer at home tonight
