I went to the local pick and pull today to see what was new. I guess I should start by saying I didn't take my camera, I forgot. But I have heard about the vinyl tops on here and never seen one in person. Well today they had two an 85 and 86 also both had sunroofs. The 86 was white and the 85 was blue. Is there a rough estimate on how many had these tops? I thought it was a pretty rare find, to bad they are destined for the crusher:banghead: this place doesn't let them sit around very long. I did manage to get some Wagoneer emblems off of a 1966 Wag. As I was leaving the yard next to this one was bringing in a red GW on there flatbed.

I am jealous of you, there's never any FSJs in the pull-a-parts here, none on the street either for that matter. :(

My moms old 66 had remnants of a vinyl top.;) I've seen a few, but not many.

Should only be on the Super Wagoneer, from 66 to 69. It could've been a dealer installed option, or a custom top done by a shop.

There was an '85 GW on the bay about a week ago with a vinyl top.

I had an '87 with a huge factory moon roof . It was black with what I'm sure was a black , sightly padded , factory vinyl roof .
A lady in the next town owned the exact same car that she bought new . Both had the dark tan interior , but hers was white with a white vinyl top and moonroof . I could never decide which one I liked best . One small distinction of the vinyl roof models is that the drip rail is shorter by a couple inches , ending directly over the back edge of the rear side window FWIW .

Sorry , it is one of my few cars that I don't have a picture of . It sure was a smart looking one , though . I didn't realize how unusual it was and would still have it but those New England rust worms got her . I think I saw a picture of the exact one on one of the Haynes manuals or other jeep bibles .

The only difference would be the grille, tails and woodgrain, right?

I will try to get back there before they get crushed. You actually had to be close to it to realize it was a vinyl top the color matched real well with the color of the Wagoneer. The top was the same color as the Wagoneer. They don't last long in the yard there at maybe a month or two then they get crushed and make way for new vehicles.
