View Full Version : Does anyone have one of these? '79 Green Limited

In another post, Dean (seventynine), posted up the below ads from 1979. I honestly don't think I have ever seen this one before.

The green wagoneer in the bottom image really caught my eye. Does anyone out there have an actual example of this color combination, or a photo of an actual one? I searched the readers rigs without luck.

I've seen the green ones posted on here before.

They are a really nice combo of colors. I'm surprised there aren't more of them.

Here are a few pics of my '89. The original color was light tan, but the previous owner had it repainted. I'm not sure what the color is called (it's a bit "greener" than the factory-painted green Wagoneers).

That 79 green is called Cumberland Green. Few years back, there was a member here who restored a green 79 Limited. Beautiful color. Later it was sold to another member. I think it was in the Carolinas or VA.

That is a nice looking GW, iroc86! I wonder if it is the 79 color. You are right in that it looks "greener" than the late-model dark green ones. I like those too.

Thanks, Fulsiz, maybe they are still around here and will post up a couple of shots. The color really caught my attention. Since I am headed (eventually) toward a complete bodywork and paint job, I am constantly looking for color combo ideas.

Hard to say since this is a drawing, but I don't think the color is the same as the green on my 78 NT. But then, it was a color change from silver by the PO..

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh194/tehintranets/Wagoneer/100_3829.jpgThat is very pretty! It looks close to cumberland green. It is hard to tell because the light can change the shade. I am kind of partial to green. My two Ramblers were green and my first FSJ was tutone green/white.

I found the restorer of the one I mentioned. 79_Limited (http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/member.php?u=4453) I can't remember if the wood was put back on.

Wow, that is sharp! Thanks for digging up the photos. I know it is a drawing, but the ad color appears to have a bit more yellow in it.

I am partial to green as well. I keep flopping back and forth between various shades of green and a "orange-cicle" color combo (orange and off-white). Considering the cost of a professional job, I obviously want to make sure I am going to be thrilled with the end result.

IROC, would you happen to have a full side-view shot you could share?

I just realized that the ad color looks almost Rescue green!

The Ad picture you posted first has a green on it that looks like GM's Fairway Green. It was used on some of the S-10's, Corvette, and a few other models when I was working at a Crappy...I mean Chevy dealer in 1997. Look up GM Fairway Green, and see what you think. One guy bought one of the 5 first year C-5 Vettes we got that year and wanted it that color. When we couldn't get him one, he paid to have the body shop shoot his white one that green. It's a difficult color to find, since GM discontinued it in late 1997. We had to have it mixed up for us by a paint supplier. Here's a very tiny color sample, but it's the only one I can find.

Thanks, guys! I searched high and low for a green Wagoneer before finding mine over 2000 miles away from home -- they're hard to come by. I've read that some FSJs were available in Forest Green during Chrysler's ownership. Not sure if that's the same Forest Green that Jeep used throughout the 1990s or not.

Here's a side view of my GW. The lighting isn't the best, as it's "greener" in person. (Can you spy the other FSJ in the picture? :))

Some of us have that roof line imprinted into our brains. Its usually the only thing you see going down the highway at 70MPH that causes your head to snap around.

I always thought that the combination of green and woodgrain made for the perfect "outdoorsy" vehicle. As in, it would fit right in at Yellowstone or the Great Smoky Mountains.

Those are some really nice Jeeps guys! It really makes me want a Wagoneer! It would be great in the snow up here taking the family around. My truck is great but it is hard to fit everyone in.

That green IS nice but there is something really classic about blue.

That is one clean looking wagon! That color looks closer to the artistic representation in the ad.

Pignose grill? 79 must have been the transition year?

Chris, I think yours in the same color as my 78. It is a darker green than the Limited in the ad. Nice rig. I like the thin wood.

Yep, '79 was the first year for the pignose grill.

The green option for '78 was Loden Green Metallic...which was darker than Cumberland Green Metallic shown in the brochure pic and the link I posted above.

That Waggy is nice though isn't it?! I wish there was a pic of the interior.

I just picked up a 1980 Dealer Brochure off of ebay for my collection. There is a pic of a Green Limited in it also. The color looks very close to the '79 Cumberland Green metallic. It's just called Dark Green Metallic.

Right well as it goes with anything really shinny the perceived color is influenced by it's environment...all that snow makes it look lighter.

Thanks! That is a better image... I really have to think about this as an option for my rig... And then I have to decide between the thin wood or back with the wide version.

And I was all settled on the thin stripe, but with a different wood grain.

My 78 was repainted the dark green by PO although it was originally gray/silver.

Glad to see this is continuing without me. Sorry, but between work and travels I don't get on here as much as I would like.

I was thrilled to get time to clean up the GW and Cherokee a little and drive them each around a bit last weekend.. I really do miss 'em but I wont bring them up here until the roads are clear of the salt/chemical stuff..

Ran across this one today:
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee184/TonkaJ200/GreenWagoneer.jpg

Has the correct wheels for a '79, and the chrome-plated aluminum bumper was '79 only if I'm not mistaken? The color is lighter than the green on my '91.

This thing was probably pretty attractive when it was new!

Frank, I think you've done it! Granted, it is a sorry state of condition, but it DOES appear to be a 79 Limited in the right shade of green.

Holely COW... the rust decided it had enough of the rockers and went for the rear door!

I guess 31 years in MI will do that.. :o

Time to dredge up an old thread, but I found another '79 Limited in the lighter green color. This one's in Colorado and appears to have a lot of sun fade, but in the interior shots, you can see the original color.
I'm really groovin' on how these look. I wonder if this color was available on a '78 Limited? THAT would be cool: Boobie grill, steel 3 pc. bumpers, big wood on the sides, wrap around tail lights, full leather interior and a factory 401. The best of everything as far as I'm concerned!

My GW is the Garnet Red Metallic. A nice color, in and of itself, but for some unGodly reason, I've always been partial to dark green. My '70 Chevelle SS was the Chebby dark green as was my '88 Suburban. Both flaked badly and had more than one authorized factory repaint. Perhaps I'm a bit masochistic, but I'd STILL like to have a dark green Wagoneer.

If I thought I could change the color on mine and it would still look good, I'd repaint today...............
