I just picked up an '80 cherokee for parts and I was looking at it and had a crazy idea: what if I cut the entire body in half right behind the little vent window (Aft of the doors) and welded on the rear wall of a j truck cab to make an extended cab j truck that jeep never made! Would this work? How about using a short bed box and a long bed truck frame? I think a extra cab j10 would be so cool!

Subscribe to the fsj-list and ask there. There is a guy on the list that did a six pack J-truck(full back seat). He could prolly give you some pointers.

Be sure to put in a rhino front grill. That is the icing on the cake. :D

I agree about the rhino grille! That's one of the reasons I had to have my 62 J2000. Well, come to think about, maybe the only reason... That truck is quite a heap. It's been sitting for years and basically a donor truck. I'd have no qualms about butchering it with torches and a sawzall.

Now, my main question is regarding the wheelbase of the shortbed j-truck as compared to the longbed? Does anyone have info on this?

J-200/2000 series are 119" WB, J-300/3000 are 126", J-4000 is 131", J-10 is either 119" or 131" and all J-20's are 131".
These numbers will vary by 1/2"-1" depending on which TSM you read and how they rounded the numbers up/down.

Joe are you in Seattle? I'm looking to pick up my tranny.
