I may be able to get an 87 GW body and frame. Did some searchin and it looks like Ill need a new front axle, driveshaft and transfercase to use the drivetrain out of Bohunks (78 WT).I want to make sure I am clear on what is involved though. Is that it or is there more? How muc do those al cost reasonably? What should I look for to put in the 87 if I cant use the 78 T-case, tranny and driveshaft?

Are you planning to swap a 78 motor into the 87? You may run into a few problems getting it inspected.
That being said, you just need to get the front diff on the right side for the T-case... If you are close to me I can tell you a good place to get the parts cheap. You just have to pull 'em yourself.

If its in NC and the price is right, I would be willing to do it. Theres two Hickorys in NC, ones 4 hours west by Charlotte and the others only an hour north-which one are you in? I know theres a plaec on the way to Tellico that has a bunch of FSJ parts, but I cant remember the name of the city for the life of me.
It'll be registered in WA state, not NC, so the inspection is different- but its the same 360 as came in the 87's I think...were there differeneces that would cause problems with the engine install?

I don't think there will be a difference that would prevent install... You'll need the correct exhaust manifolds and Y-pipe according to which t-case/front axle combo you use. That's about it that I know off.
I live in about 45 minutes from Charlotte. The junkyard with the parts is in Morganton.
Why WA? I thought you lived in NC.

Thanks Shredby4, I do live in NC, but I keep all my vehicles registered in WA state. I am in the service so its cheaper for me that way. Hope to see you at the 2004 FSJ Invasion-East Coast..take a look at the thread in the events section!
Thanks for the info....btt
