There's a group of 10 San Diego FSJ'ers that have found each other. We get together from time to time to wrench, wheel, and encourage each other to work through our FSJ issues. A kind of support team I guess? LOL If you are in the greater San Diego area and would like to get involved with others that feel your pain, we would like to hear from you. Shoot Chief Gunner or Myself a P.M. and we will let ya know where and when the next get together is going to be and what we are going to be doing.:drivin:

To second what Metal Twister is saying, SOCAL has quite a bit to offer, and some FSJ support is a great way to enjoy all SOCAL is offering. Let us know where your at, and lets build a solid FSJ presence in Southern California.:)

Hey Chief I was thinking of a San Diego FSJ Caravan to the TDS Desert Safari might be cool. Spend a day or what ever?

hello
I am fairly new to the forum but would be willing to join in on a get together. I have a 1980 Wagoneer 360 and a 1965 Wagoneer 230 and am located in the north county in Fallbrook.
Let me know when the next meeting of the minds would be and I'll be sure to be there

Whats up guys? My name is Lo and im located in El Centro in the Imperial Valley. Were currently building our wagoneer, its a 71' with a 360 gonna be getting a 6" lift. Do you guys ever go cruising out at Superstition Mountains? When the season hits ill be down to go for a cruise. If the wagon isnt ready ill cruise in my truck. I just like meeting new people to go wheelin especially in a FSJ Mob! That would be awesome!

Thanks Metal Twister! Currently the engine is ready to get dropped in, it might go back in this weekend, for meanwhiles here are a few pics....
This is when we were picking it up, had to put some rolling tires...Had to put it on some jack stands in order to put the rolling tires on. It fell off from one of the jack stands cus there was a strong earthquake and knocked it off haha. It was the one a week after from the Easter earthquake.

This is how it sits now with a little wash and some tires haha...

Looking good! Our little San Diego band of 10 misfits has grown to the lucky number of 13 FSJ's. Thanks for checking in guys...
The invite is still on the table. Anyone in The Greater San Diego or neighboring community's that actually wheels their rigs join us for a variety of runs. Desert runs, Big Bear Runs, Local Crawling events, Expedition Runs, Adventure Runs, and many others. Great Group of folks so far with the exception of that one guy!:D NOT!

Hey all, guess you can count me in, from Temecula. I just bought a 67 wagoneer. Brought it home and got it runnin, thought I had scored a great deal. Then I promptly tore the motor mount off of the frame. Is this common? Rig has the 327 vigelante engine. Anyone know a welder in the area? Hope I dont have to pull the engine to fix this.

sounds good.. i have a 89 GW i call the swagoneer .. i have only seen a handful of fsjs in san diego and non are lifted .. .. i am happy to be apart of this and possibly wheel soon..
i am from San diego and i am currently in shanghai china till oct 20 helping my friend and running the first and only high end off road jeep shop in china .. we import only american parts.. we are the sole disributor of KING shocks, teraflex,BDS,bushwacker,ARB,alloy, procomp,w eathertech, and all major brands in the USA. we mostly do Jk's and wj's since those are the most popular in china.
i would be happy to lend my knowledge and experiance in jeeps to all FSJ's in san diego . i have been a off road and muscle car fabricator and mechanic for 8 years. i also have my own in house valve grinding set =-up which my cousin does all the valve jobs and is the best in sd.
here is my 89 grand swagoneer i got for free from a friend that couldnt get it smogged.. lol lucky me im a good mechanic had to put a header on it since the old one blew a base ball size hole into it cause the heat rizer valve was welded shut..
when i come back to sd i will be pulling the motor (nothing wrong with it now but i like mine built!) with pop up pistons and custom schneider cam of coarse and heads hogged out with bigger valves .also 6 inch lift with king shocks since i am certified from king shocks to rebuild and service them
here she is as she stands 89 with 150000 miles on it

Wanab4X4,
Looking good. I never knew the offroad community was so large in China. How are you going to lift your Jeep? I did the spring over axle and shackle flip on mine. Got me about 6-7" of lift and works well. What part of San DIego are you going to be in?

i want to also do the same set up as u .. SOA in front and flip shackle. with king shocks i bet ill be the only wagoneer with king shocks lol im in northpark area . near balboa park/morley field..
and also the offroading community is just getting started here.. they have alot to learn and most of the owners are big wigs who just want the look and the "status" of a lifted jeep" a lifted jeep here is like haveing a lambo or ferrari in the states

Again Dave, no worries. If your that board, come hang out in Guam with me. Man I wish I had my Jeep out here. There is some killer offroading out here. Wanab, the stock wheel are 15"X7". I went with 15"X8". I think they are aluminum wheels, and I will slowly swap them out with some 15X8 steel wheels. Also, the XJ was on NAXJA, but is pieces now. The owner now has a Toyota.

15x8 with a 4" backspacing is what you looking for if your running stock narrow track axles and a 12.50" wide tire. 10" wide rims with a 12.50" tire is just a little bit wide. I've heard they will want to pop the beads while aired down offroad. My 12.50's sit real nice on 8" wide rims.

Wow thats an old one! The buildings were put up in 1959 and has had quite a history. Back in the day the buildings were in movies and and in the 70's used off and on for the local T.V. series props that were shot here in town. 10-02-2010, 09:21 AM
That is on my list of things to do. I want to convert my round lights to a H4 type bulb so I can upgrade to better lights. Ultimately, I would love to go with a true projector beam, but that is so low on the list right now.
suzq044
10-03-2010, 11:07 AM
I was thinking to do it with the auxiliary lights. Just use them as the headlights, and the regular lenses as the auxiliaries.
fogs/auxiliaries = headlights; headlights = fogs/auxiliaries. That way the truck doesn't look like it has eyeballs.. for the square lenses.
wanab4x4
10-04-2010, 04:41 AM
well thats illigal in california..u can try to do that but i see u being pulled over real quick.. i used to have my 1979 mustang with the 4 head lights and i switched the middle 2 for the low beams and the outside for the high and i got pulled over within a week with a fix it ticket.. u have to have the headlights in the stock position and they have to be on the outside edge of the car.. and + the reason for the eyeball lens is to give u a nice stright beam of light that doesnt shine up wards so all the light is projected in front of u hence the name (projector headlight)
and u dont want to have to get a brake and light inspection.. thats a b****

We are still around and we post up when things are planned. Un fortunantly we are talking FSJ's here, and at any time there is a M&G or run posted our rigs may or may not be running. :D So we havent had the best turn outs for these meetings.:( If we ever did get lucky and got them all together at one time it would be a lot of fun and quite a sight Im sure. :D We will keep trying and posting so keep an eye on this section of the IFSJA. And thanks for bringing up this old thread. I hope it continues to grow here in So Cal. PM sent....

if we wait until everyone's rig is ready, we'll never get there.
however, if we help each other get their rigs on the road, we'd have better turnouts. plus a lot of fun along the way. i met songman when he picked up the j10 in banning, worked with geminiroq on his cherokee, met suzq044 and smittles in the yards, and working on their cherokee. and djongeward's son will be picking up the 4350 carb in the next few days.
all good times.
Well I'm trying to wrap up some odds and ends on my Wagon so I can take it out to the desert for an off road shake down. I'm shooting for mid-February, but it might even be the TDS Desert Safari.
As far as a local meet-n-greet, I'll throw out an idea. I've used Dalton's Roadhouse in San Marcos before for this type of thing. They host a car show in their parking lot on the first Sunday of every month. Just an idea to get some discussion going.
Trying to make my Willys Wagon more highway friendly is also on the to do list.
