My new Chief has all the smog stuff and either there is some kind of air/vacuum leak somewhere or the smog stuff makes it much more noisier than my Wag without it. Which do you think it is?

Smog pumps are noisy, they sound kind of like an air compressor (since that's kind of what they are).

Well, I can tell you my story,

88 Grand waggy, noisy smog pump, (Not the usual bearing noise but more of a
Putt, put sound), so I desided to take a look at what was going on. Air was being
pushed out the rear vent hole on the pump, so decide to see if excess presure
was causing the problem, look at the driver side check valve and the top of it falls
off, no way to remove the rest of it and leave the air manifold intact, so start removing the
air bolts, front one staps off, check the other check valves and notice they are not
opening, notice a bunch for black chunks of crap in each one, so start back traking and
find the diverter valve full of black plastic chunk stuff .....

By the time I was done:
Parts used :
New Air manifolds, 3 new air manifold bolts, 14 air bolt washers, 3 check valves,
1 diverer valve, 1 rebuilt air pump, one set of exaust manifold gaskets.
Time :
R&R drivers exaust manifold , drill out remains of borken air bolt, remove all hoses
to clean out remains of air pump seals (The source of the plastic crap), reinstall all
the air system.

I hope your adventure is less trying than my, "I think I will look into this funny noise
in the air system today" adventure.
(Took me a week to get all the parts and find time to play with it)
