Does anyone know of a machine shop in Richmond, Va. that knows AMC engines. Any thoughts/recommendations good or bad are appreciated. I don't mind paying for good work but hate paying for someone that thinks they know what they are doing (out $$$$ already for that type of thing and don't like wasting cash!)

Thanks,
John

Any good machine shop will be able to competently work on an AMC V8... machine work is machine work, a small block is a small block. Each and every maker has their own little cork(s) incorporated into their design. AMC's corks happen to be focused around their oiling system.... I'm not a big fan of the front timing cover/water pump but, that's just another thing that makes AMC motors different than most.

Thanks, you have a point, I am just mad because I paid to have custom exhaust work done instead of doing it myself and the final result was a joke. So now I am paranoid I guess, oh well live and learn.

......and their non-adjustable valvetrain. Valve install height, shimming under bridged rockers if block is decked/heads milled, etc. A good machinest will know, a bad one won't or won't care.

Have you tried talking to the guys at AED on willis? They deal with high performance engines on a daily basis. I know lots of machine shops around the area that will work on a AMC, but since your gun shy I would shop around. I know one to stay away from on Jeff Davis is Paradise Road. Heard some bad stuff from them.
