I know I will get flamed for this but here I go...
How about installing an RB26DETT from a Nissan Skyline into an FSJ (with modifications to motor mounts). Think of the potential it would have when it comes to power, and it has a turbo...
Two in fact...

Do you need to know more?
ALSO, it would lose 4X4 capabilities?

Name one "American" car that has 100% domestic content.
As I drive away in my Korean Chevy, wearing my Ebonian made "American" Levi's.
Sounds like too much of a spinner (i.e. make its HP at high RPM's) to be a good
FSJ engine, I think I would pass.

An American Motors Wagoneer?
Lets see an all American Jeep (Depending on year)
Owned by AMC who was owned by the French, then the Germans, and now the Italians, might as well buy a Tennessee Toyota , oh wait the Goverment now owns GM, and they are after Toyota to help prop up GM sales, it is a screwy world we live in, enjoy it while the oil lasts.

I love FSJ very very much but I feel like that's a waste of that motor.

In the toyota world, Adapters exist to mate a Supra Engine to a 4x4 toyota transmission and retain 4wd. I'd think something similar could be bought/fabbed for this application, then again I'm not up on Nissan.

if you are drag racing go for it.
if you are 4 wheeling, its not really worth it in a heavy vehicle.
that said i swapped a toyota supra I6 into my 85 xtra cab. i used it off road all the time. it would rev all day to 6500 rpm without a wimper. man i miss that truck still.

Oh man, leave the RB's to the nissans....Not a place for the FSJ's. I have a FSJ and just sold my s13 w/ rb25....to be replaced by a s14 w/ SR20

it would probly be more cost effictive to just stroke a 4.0 and put it in. you would still have 4 wheel drive and you would have a motor that would make the same if not more power at lower rpms. with less work putting it in.

If you do plan on doing some Wheeling you could possibly use the the higher Displacement RB30 RB30ET or the RB30DET and then use the Transfer Case out of the Nissan Patrol(Safari). Or if you Decide against it you could always give me the RB so I can get rid of My SR
Info on the RB series engine.

Good for a Corolla But a FSJ.......I think it might run one wheel.

What about just snagging the turbos, and turboing your existing motor?

I'd bet it doesn't have a lot of torque and horsepower down low (esp. with turbos as they have to spool) so it would probably suck trying to move a big heavy rig.

Not worth it:
You would get 280hp (nothing to laugh at but it won't win races in a big heavy FSJ) and LOSE 4wd and its a lot of work... Or you get to keep 4wd and its even more work.
Build the V8 (if that what you have)... More power for less work.
If you need a new motor get a 4.0... Easier swap and you could build that and probably still come out ahead.
Still its your rig and you have that engine lying around...

As I Stated before using the Transfer Case out of the Safari would be your best Option. Also if you plan to not use the RB you could Always Use one of the Many Gasoline engines from the Safari or one of the many Diesel options that they came with from the Factory. Another Option Would be the VH Series out of the 300ZX series or even the VQ35 out of the 350Z series and the Titan VQ56. The VH45 though Came Twin turbo in some years so if you really want the turbo thing that would be a good choice with the VH. All in all those are good choices if you want to be unique and have power. but if you Want to Just have Turbo Power Just go turbo the 360 or 401. I don't think Turbos are good for crawling due to for the most part you have to be at a Higher RPM to create boost. I myself would go with a Super Charger System unless its a Low RPM torque monster Diesel.
