I have been doing some after hours body work in the celler while its cold and have a question. I have been hitting all my bare metal Eastwood cleaner then several coats is Rustoliem Sandable primer, doing some minnor body work/putty, sanding and rattle can again. I'm intending to wet sand it all down in the spring and shoot the whole thing with the depont heavy solids primer and wet sand it again before sending it to get painted. Am I going about this wrong using a rattel can as a base? If I get 10 years out of the paint I'll be happy.

Tha paint job is only as good as the weakest link and rattle can paint/primer is VERY weak. By depont I assume you mean dupont. It's great paint but not over rattle can primer. It may not even be compatiable. You need good 2k (2 part) primers and top coats. These days most painters use eopxy primer as the main base, followed by a high solids primer and then the top coat. Etching primer is still used at times as well. Do some research on line before you go any further if you want the paint job to last 10 years. I have painted some vehicles with spray cans but the paint is just not very durable.
