I bought a new y-pipe (exhaust) and went to look at replacing it yesterday.

Does anyone have any experience with this? It looks like my studs are just rods (no threads left). Any pointers?

Thanks

there should be threads under the nuts any way.go at the studs with a wire brush to remove the rust, then pb blast the nuts. i spent a good 2hrs getting 4 nuts loose. one stud came out with the nut. i used a 1/2" cold chisel stuck in a deep socket on a 16" extension to split one of the nuts on right side. the others i managed to loosen with a 1/4" drive socket set. i used this because there was less chance of shearing the stud.be patient, good luck

After you get the old nuts off you might want to chase the threads with a die. Then I'd use brass nuts and a little anti-seize when you put it back together. That will help if you ever have to take it apart again.
