I am putting a Carter AFB on my new Performer intake and the gasket I bought to go in between doesn't match exactly...I just am wondering of it matters or not. I want to do this right...I put a picture of the carb base next to the gasket on the TexasOklahoma Jeep club website and I'll try to link to it from here....if that don't work, then I guess you'll have to go dig up the website to see what I am talking about....THX

Sorry bout them links, I guess MSN doesn't like people linking to their server...click on this link to go to the TEXAS OKLAHOMA JEEP CLUB WEBSITE (http://groups.msn.com/ATexasOklahomaJeepClub/) then click on the "Pictures" link and then look in the "Temporary" file.

Thanks
I am hooping to get this install done tomorrow.

only members of your tx club there can see the pics, as you have to be a member to see them. I'm willing to bet alot of people don't really feel like signing up, especially since it's msn. Email the pics to me, nathanielbutts@insightbb.com , I'll host em for ya and post em up here.

DS, Thanks for fixing the pic.

Will the gasket work with the carb?

Anyone? Anyone?

Make sure the gasket and carb and intake all MATCH.

... In the picture the gasket is turned 90 degrees from the base plate and the gasket is also farther from the camera.
... The spacing of the holes on the gasket seem to be much closer together than the holes of the base plate. That fact? Coupled with the slots cut in the base plate leads me to say NO or at lease not as designed.

... Did I pass the exam or did I flunk the test?

I noticed that the AFB/Performer carbs are a slight spreadbore design. That carb gasket looks like it's designed to work with a Holley 750cfm carb, which has larger primaries than the AFB or the 600cfm Holleys. I think the primary bores on the carb will be smaller than the holes on the gasket, but that won't affect its sealing ability.

I'd use it.

DS
The gasket is not further away and there are no camera tricks...the gasket holes are all the same size but the...
secondaries ARE larger than the primaries...
Yes the gasket is at a 90 angle, but it don't matter cause the 4 holes in the gasket are all the same size

Bob, I tend to agree...I think I am going to use it as is. The holes in the gasket are larger than the primaries, but I am thinking that it shouldn't be a problem...just wanted some second opinions..
THX 2 all :D

But now we seem to have a tie in the opinons....anybody else have anything to chime in here?

Jode…
… I bow to Bob Barry… He’s swapped more carb’s and manifolds than I have. I do believe I would pin the gasket to the carburetor base and mark and trim the parts that may be in the way of the airflow.
... I measured the mounting holes in the PICS and they were a different dimension and that means the camera was a different distance or angle in the two PICs…. No biggy… :D

Good Luck ;) and CUL.. Don S..

LOL
the "two pics" are one and the same. It is one image of the two items. I guess they are at a slight enough angle and photoimagery could contribute to the illusion... smile.gif
Thanks

I'll keep you posted on the results
