new engine vs rebuilt

I got a price from my mechanic today. New engine with labor $2500. This is with a 4yr and 100,000 mile warranty. He said that to completely rebuild it would cost $2200. Is $2500 a fair price?

Depends if it is rebuilt or remanufactured. Check the web site for Power Pro 2000. http://www.powerpro2000.com/
They have a 5year/100000 mile warranty. About the same price, for their remanufactured.

Price kida depends on area and who's doing it. I would recomend a rebuild if you have a good mechanic, you can upgrade afew parts for little or no additional money, cam ,timing chain, rings. A lot of those remanufactured motors use as many old parts as they can to cut down cost.
