I have a 360 engine that I'm going to swap the 4bbl intake to a 2bbl intake. The engine is a rebuilt long block and has had the heads milled at the time of the rebuild. I don't know how much was milled off, but the rubber seal at the front of the intake is pushed out, which I'm told indicates the intake sits too low on the heads because of the milling of the heads. I also suspect I have some intake leakage at the head surface since the engine runs a little rough-some of this due to a bum Motorcraft 4bbl carb. Do I need to have the intake milled so that the angle will meet at a more flush angle, and should the front and rear of the intake rubber seal area be milled also?
Certainly, thousands of rebuilt long block assys. are installed every year. I think that in most cases this intake milling is never considered. Do most mechanics just run a heavy bead of sealant on all the intake surfaces and just let it go?

Milling the intake will only be worth it if you know how much was milled off the heads. If I remember for every .010 off the head .070 at a specific angle has to be milled off the intake. Is the 4 barrel intake your taking off an alum Edelbrock? If it is that is why the front rubber seal is pushing out. Edelbrock recommends not using the front and rear seal in the kits. Just a load of sealant.

yeah, go to the edelbrock web site and look for the instructions for installing their intakes. use a metal valley pan gasket and rtv on the ends. works fine.

Also to note, most time a head/block is milled in a normal rebuild, it is unlikely it would be taken far enough to require any modifications to the intake other then maybe slightly slotting the bolt holes in the intake.
End seals are prone for that, and while it could be a sign of too much milling, I would fine that unlikely.
