Did they ever put a 5 lug Dana 44 in the front of the FSJ's? The other question is, has anyone done a frame swap from a 1972 to a 1965? I will be using the '72 frame and the '65 body... is there any major differences I need to be concerned with? Also, what TC was attatched to the TH400 tranny?

Yes I think all pre '74 Jeep Gladiators had a front 5 lug D44. It also had the closed knuckle design. The frame swap should be no problem they are the same frame. You might have a little trouble with linkages but nothing big. And Q-Trac and D20 were the only cases used behind the AMC TH400.

All 5 lug D44's in Glads were w/t and the frt springs are mounted outboard of the frame with a SOA set up, so spring pads must be moved. You could take a later model D44 and possibly put Ford brakes rotors on it.If the rotors alone would not work then you could go to the whole Ford knuckle and brake assembly (use the Ford stub shaft). The T400 used either the D20 gear to gear cast iron case or later models used the q/trac.
