Is it possible to just drill a hole in the bottom of your trans pan and install a plug so you don't have to pull the whole pan, or at the very least, so the pans not full of fluid to get at the filter. Seems like it would be alot cleaner. Or, could you pump it out through the dip stick like you do to change the oil on boats?

You can get an aftermarket drain-plug that just requires drilling a hole.
Just be careful WHERE you drill the hole, as some locations would interfere with the filter or other parts. Also, they use a backing nut inside the pan (the pan is not thick enough to accept the threads by itself), so there will be a layer of fluid on the bottom that doesn't drain out.

Summit has them for the TH400 for that price. May have them for the TF as well.

At the place I work at we punch a hole with a knawl. Then mig it up before going back on. A drain blug would be the goods thou.

The TCI performance kit for the 727 from Summit comes with a drain plug kit, so if you are ever looking at a rebuild, it is well worth looking at. The guys at the trans shop that I took mine to were impressed with the kit.
