does anybody run a 1 or 2 inch carb spacer with a 4bbl holley..i have heard good and bad do they really work or am i gonna have really rough idle and only gain power at the top end? im looking to bust the 400ft. lbs.of torque mark!

My Cherokee had a 1" Phenolic spacer on the 4bbl MotorCraft Carb that was on it when I got it. It idled a little rough, but not badly.

I now have a 1" Aluminum spacer under an Edelbrock Performer. I dont have it tuned well yet, so I cant tell you which of the roughness is the Spacer and which is the Carb.

i was wondering the same thing. in the march 2001 issue of car craft there was a terrific article on the car space issue. they discussed quite a few carb spacers and dynoed them all for peak torque and horsepower. you should give it a look.

Use a 1" spacer as a 2" will not fit under the hood. NOw are you using the stock AMC 4 bbl manifold? If yes a 4 hole 1 inch spacer is the only way it will mount on right. I did this on mine using a phelonic spacer and a 600 cfm Holley. Dude once I set up the jetting it hauled!! If you have a edelbrock or holley intake a open center spacer is best. I temporarily used a edelbrock intake with a Q jet with a open center spacer adaptor on my waggy with 360 and it idled smoother that when i put one of those four hole spread bore to square bore adaptors. It also had more top end but that was cuz each cylinder sucked fuel from all four barrels rather than just two with the 4 hole spacer.

Just a thought, also that spacer provides thermal insulation for the carb from the engine heat (some). So the non metal ones seem to be the ticket, I have my stock plastic one (phenolic? ) is that it?? well my carb rebuild kit came with a fiber one that was a lot thinner. I used the stock one but was wondering if it would benefit at all to put the fiber one in there too under the stock plastic one??? (I run the 2150 by the way but its the same theory )

basicly what i have got is a 401 bored 0.030over with hooker headers soon to be E.I. conversion with tfi conversion and a 650 holley. it has tons of power but i want more. i want to go with the 2inch metal? spacer and a velocity stack and just nicely cut the hood and do a small scoop...will this combo work.. i need 400 ft lbs of torque

I was planning on a shaker hood scoop off a pontiac T/A but I sold my Wagoneer before I was able to get the parts.
Want more power. Put a cam in that sucker!
