What do you all use for a lubricating wick? I tried to call the dealer and see if the parts department had it, but the guy there just said he didn't know what it was and hung up on me before I could ask to speak to a tech.

I'm thinking I'll probably just use a 2x2 or 3x3 peice of a cotton shirt and soak it in oil.

Well, I'm curious. What and where is this lubricating wick? The only wick I can remember is on the rubbing block of old points-type distributors.

I think he's talking about the oil wick that goes in the rear end of the crankshaft, where the input shaft comes in from a manual transmission. Dont think an auto needs it. Its soaked with oil and helps to lubricate the shaft as it and the crank spin.

My 76 TSM says to soak the pilot bushing and wick in engine oil.
