Hi people,
please help me identify this engine.

As you stand at the front of the truck looking at the engine (RH drive as I am in Australia) on the left side down low are the # 3 and letter H

Righthand side below intake and exhaust on the block are these markings 3HM then 3199962,

followed by a raised square with the letter C and #1 on it.

Just above that, is a symbol like marking which has 8 raised dots forming a circle and in the middle is a tear drop symble pointing towards the front of the engine, it is pointing towards the dot if counting clockwise dot #6

Engine is blue but has been rebuilt so it may have been repainted.

If you know this engine do you know the part # for the Harmonic balancer??? If so may I have it?

Many thanks again, you people are fantastic.

Regards GT71Wag

The 232/258 ID codes are on this site under the tech link but this will get you there.
http://www.ifsja.org/tech/motors/index.shtml

Those codes works for USA built for either domestic or export but if your rig was Euro or OZ built the codes prolly don't apply and you'll need to talk with some early Jeep sources in Australia.
The ID codes here are 'stamped' into the block. Any raised(cast in) numbers you see are just casting numbers for the head/block blanks before machining and assembly.
Good luck...hope this it works for ya.
Ohh...and the codes are on the right side of the block(just below the head) as in 'right' when you're sitting in the rig. Not sure how you folks decided on 'right' down there but thought I'd better mention it since your steering wheels are on the wrong side and your toilets flush backwards. Well ok...maybe it's ours that do? :D
