Runs like crap with dash gauges out???

Does the ingnition module some how tie into the dash cluster? Removed my dash to fix a amp meter and shorted the amp wires together to let it run and she runs like a dog. Acts like the module is getting confused. And yes I blocked the vacuum lines for the heater contols. I was thinking maybe the module got a signal from maybe the temp gauge.

No way not in 1978.

Check the actual voltage that you have getting to the coil when the motor is running, and when the motor is cranking. You may have further electrical-system damage from that ammeter blowout.

But no, they are not directly tied together.

It's not in the 78 it's in the 85. Everything seems to be working fine. Voltages all look within spec. Fixing to put the dash back in so I guess I will go from there.
