Whoa, my smog pump just seized so I want to get rid of all the other emissions stuff as well. I'm just learning to work on my Jeep so anything I can get out of my way helps. If I rip it all out, I need to make the mixture richer and bring the timing back some? Is that it? That's what I've read I should do.

Will it be a bad idea to just rip it out, not change anything, start driving around and if it seems to run fine, fine?

You only need to change the fuel-mixture if you eliminate the EGR. There's no real reason to eliminate it, though, as it doesn't limit full-throttle performance, and if it's operating properly, it doesn't affect part-throttle driveability. If it isn't operating properly, it's easier to fix the EGR than to change the fuel-curve.

I had the valve on the AIR system melt after the exhaust check vale malfunctioned. I took the hoses and valve and everthing off and cut the belt on the AIR pump. The motor runs fine. Good luck

What i was told in high school auto shop was that if you remove the EGR then you will have to retard the timing of run higher octane fuel other wise you will get detonation. My teacher made it seem like you are ****ed if you do ****ed if you don't. He was very much an advocate of keeping it stock. I don't know if he was just telling us that to keep if factory or not but good luck!

You can certainly remove the whole AIR system; that won't affective driveability. Just be sure to properly plug the ports for the system at the exhaust manifolds.
