4" Lift-VS-Spring Over Axle Ride

Hey, looking to build a 1980 FSJ for both play/family/work so i need info on how well the SOA handles on the Hi-Ways at speeds of 65/80 sometimes even faster:drivin:also how well does it handle in just the inner city ride is it a stiff ride or very springy:confused: if i go with the SOA i dont plain on going with a lift springs unless i have to would like to use stock springs is this possible:confused: if not will i have to go with a 4" lift springs or can i use 2" springs maybe someone should just brake down to me the pro's and con's on how the spring over axles set up works would like to see pics of each step:thumbsup: also does any body have pics of 4"lift next to a spring over axle lift would love to see how much more height the spring over axle set up has:D

Check out the off road section, several threads on SOA and SOA vs spring lifts. I have done both. I had a 4" Rusty lift on my waggy, I have a SOA lift on my Cherokee. Here are your questions and my thoughts:

Handles fine. Remember you are higher up so sudden moves at 80 are not suggested. i drive mine at 65 to 70 regulary. When the speed limit on the highway is 75 i tool along at 75+ but again, you will be up high with a higher COG.

SOA rides pretty much like stock. 4" lift was stiffer.



if i go with the SOA i dont plain on going with a lift springs unless i have to would like to use stock springs is this possible:confused:

if not will i have to go with a 4" lift springs or can i use 2" springs maybe someone should just brake down to me the pro's and con's on how the spring over axles set up works would like to see pics of each step:thumbsup: also does any body have pics of 4"lift next to a spring over axle lift would love to see how much more height the spring over axle set up has:D

The choice of springs is independent of the SOA. You can do SOA with stock springs or, for even more lift, go with 2 or 4 in lift but I warn you, you will be up HIGH.

You get about 6 or 7 inches with a SOA.

Like I said, I have both and I prefer the SOA.

Like I said, I have both and I prefer the SOA.Well thanks for the info:thumbsup: that somes it up for me:thumbsup: im a man of speeeeed at all times:drivin: plus 6 or 7 inch lift is way to much for family use 4" lift and 32" tires for my FSJ;)
